This manual provides detailed procedures for assembling, aligning, and inspecting the mechanical components of the Snowflake 3D Printer before operation. Proper assembly ensures reliable performance, print accuracy, and long-term stability.
Step 1: Verify Assembly Components #
Before beginning assembly, ensure that all parts and tools are available as listed in the Unboxing & Inventory Guide:
- ✔ Printer Main Frame
- ✔ Build Plate Assembly
- ✔ Spool Holder
- ✔ PTFE Tube
- ✔ Allen Keys (2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm)
- ✔ Tweezers and Nipper
- ✔ Power Cable and Pendrive
Step 2: Build Plate Installation #
1. Identify the magnetic build plate and alignment notches on its rear side.
2. Align the plate with the mounting screws on the printer’s base platform.
3. Press down gently to engage the magnetic base until it sits flush and snug.
4. Ensure the plate is secure and level; it should not tilt or wobble.
Step 3: Spool Holder and PTFE Tube Installation #
1. Locate the spool holder mounting slot on the printer’s side or rear frame.
2. Insert the spool holder into the slot until it clicks into position securely.
3. Mount the filament spool onto the holder with smooth rotation ensured.
4. Insert one end of the PTFE tube into the filament runout sensor and the other into the nozzle input fitting.
5. Verify that the PTFE tube is fully seated in both connectors and moves without kinks.
Step 4: Extruder and Nozzle Inspection #
1. Ensure the extruder is firmly attached and the nozzle tip is clean and undamaged.
2. Inspect the cooling fan shrouds for debris or loose screws.
3. Confirm that the nozzle is properly tightened using the provided tools (avoid overtightening).
4. Verify that the filament drive gear rotates smoothly and without obstruction.
Step 5: Motion System Alignment #
1. Manually move the X, Y, and Z axes gently to check for smooth motion and the absence of friction.
2. Ensure belts are tensioned appropriately — not too loose or too tight.
3. Confirm all linear rods are parallel and clean of dust or residue.
4. Apply a light coating of WD-40 to the rods if movement feels dry or squeaky.
Step 6: Fastener Tightness Check #
1. Inspect and tighten all screws, bolts, and nuts on the frame using the provided Allen keys.
2. Pay special attention to:
- ✔ Build plate mount screws
- ✔ Extruder assembly screws
- ✔ Frame corner joints
- ✔ Spool holder connection
3. Avoid overtightening to prevent stripping threads or damaging components.
Step 7: Final Mechanical Inspection #
Before powering on the printer, perform the following checks:
- ✔ All assemblies are secured and aligned properly.
- ✔ Moving parts travel smoothly without obstruction.
- ✔ No cables interfere with motion paths.
- ✔ The build plate and nozzle are clean and correctly positioned.
- ✔ The filament path from the spool to the extruder is clear and straight.
Step 8: Visual Quality and Cleanliness Check #
1. Wipe the printer surfaces with a lint-free cloth to remove dust or fingerprints.
2. Verify there are no visible damages, cracks, or missing labels on the printer frame.
3. Check that the LCD display and control knob are clean and functional.
4. Inspect all connectors and ports for proper seating.
Important Notes #
• Always perform a mechanical inspection before every major printing cycle or transport.
• Do not use excessive force on the moving parts; manual movement should be gentle and smooth.
• If abnormal noises or resistance are noticed during movement, stop and inspect alignment.
• Contact Fracktal Works Support for any missing or damaged mechanical parts.
