Where a batch of one is the normal case

Every patient is a different shape, so every patient-specific part is a production run of one. Conventional manufacturing is bad at that by construction; additive manufacturing does not care.

The route is already there — a CT or MRI series becomes a surface model, and that model becomes something a surgeon can hold, rotate and rehearse on before the theatre is booked. The same route makes the fixture that holds the device during a bench test.
