Why IDEX

A Conventional Dual Extruder vs. IDEX

In a conventional shared-carriage dual extruder both nozzles travel together, so the idle nozzle drips and drags molten plastic across the part.

IDEX lifts the idle nozzle and parks it clear, so nothing oozes onto the part and no threads get dragged across it.

Double Your Output

IDEX is the only extrusion system that prints with two heads independently, which is what lets a Twin Dragon run Mirror and Duplication modes and make two parts at once. Twice the capacity from one machine.

Mirror Mode

Both extruders print the same part mirrored, so a left and a right come off the bed together.

Duplication Mode

Both extruders print identical copies in parallel. Twice the output from one job, with no change to the file.

IDEX Print Modes

Dual-Colour Printing
Dual-tone parts: logos, labels and two-tone models, with no manual filament change.
Dual-Material Printing
Two materials in one print, flexible with rigid or a model with its support, each laid down by its own nozzle.
Soluble Supports
Print supports in PVA or a soluble material and dissolve them away, achieving complex geometries with clean, easy post-processing.
Duplication Mode
Both extruders print identical copies at the same time, which doubles the output on a production run of one part.
Mirror Mode
Print a part and its mirror at the same time. Left and right components come off the bed together.

Hot-Swappable Nozzle System

The IMEX retracting system is what makes Twin Dragon’s two heads truly independent, keeping the idle nozzle lifted clear of the part while the other one works.

Nozzles from 0.25 mm to 1.2 mm swap in seconds, in brass, stainless and hardened steel. Dial in fine detail or lay down bulk, from PLA through to abrasive carbon-fibre composites.

Beyond the possible

Complete Freedom of Complexity

Twin Dragon’s retracting nozzle system paired with water-soluble supports reaches geometry single-nozzle printing cannot: complex internal channels and captive assemblies.

Print supports in PVA and simply wash them away, leaving clean surfaces and shapes a single nozzle could never release.
