Six Questions That Pick the Machine

Most of the range overlaps. These are the six things that actually separate one Fracktal printer from the next.

How big is the part?

Snowflake and Julia print to 200 mm. Dragon goes to 700 × 400 × 400 mm and Twin Dragon to 600 × 600 × 400 mm. Build volume is the one constraint you cannot design around.

How hot does the material need it?

PLA and PETG print on any machine here. ABS and ASA want an enclosure. PC, nylon and carbon-filled grades want a heated chamber, which means Dragon, Twin Dragon or Volterra.

One material, or two?

A second independent extruder buys soluble support, two-colour parts and, on Twin Dragon, mirror and duplication printing. Twin Dragon is IDEX; Volterra is IMEX.

One part, or a shift’s worth?

A desktop machine beside an engineer answers a question in an afternoon. A production machine on a floor runs unattended with a camera, flow sensing and power-failure recovery.

Who maintains it?

Every machine here is built in Bengaluru, so a spare is a courier away rather than an import. That matters more over three years than any single specification.

Do you need to own one at all?

If the answer is a few parts a month, our manufacturing service is cheaper than a machine and comes with the process engineering. Owning wins once printing becomes routine.

                Questions We Get About the Range

                Which machine should a first-time buyer get?
                Snowflake, in almost every case. It prints PLA, PETG, ABS and ASA out of the box, levels itself, recovers from a power cut and does not ask you to learn a chamber. Buying a production machine to learn on is the most common expensive mistake.
                What is the difference between IDEX and IMEX?
                Both give you two materials. IDEX, on Twin Dragon, has two carriages that move independently, which is what makes mirror and duplication printing possible: two copies of a part at once. IMEX, on Volterra, retracts the idle nozzle out of the way, which keeps a sealed hot chamber sealed.
                Do I need a heated chamber?
                Only for what warps. PLA and PETG do not need one. ABS and ASA want at least an enclosure. PC, nylon and carbon-filled grades need real chamber heat to hold their shape across a long print, which is Dragon, Twin Dragon or Volterra.
                Can I print carbon-fibre filled material on any of these?
                Mechanically yes, sensibly no. Carbon-filled grades are abrasive and will chew a brass nozzle. Volterra takes hardened steel nozzles and Dragon takes nozzles from 0.4 to 1.2 mm; ask us which combination fits the grade you have in mind.
                What does it cost?
                Prices are quoted rather than listed, because the configuration changes them — build size on Dragon and Twin Dragon, nozzle set, extended frame on Julia. Tell us the parts you need to make and we will quote the smallest machine that makes them.
                What if I only need a few parts?
                Then do not buy a machine yet. We run the same processes as a service from Bengaluru and ship across India. Owning starts to win when printing becomes routine rather than occasional.
                Where are they made, and who fixes one?
                All of them are designed and built at our own facility in Bengaluru. That is the practical argument for the range: a spare part is a courier away and the people who answer the phone are the people who built the machine.
