3D Printing for Medical

Device development moves at the speed of the slowest prototype. Additive removes tooling from that path and puts documentation back into it.

Why additive, here

Development speed, with the paperwork intact

Medical device development is a long series of small builds — a housing, a grip, a fixture for a bench test, then the same three again with one dimension changed. Tooling any of them is money spent on a design that is about to change.

What additive has to add for this sector is not speed, it is evidence. Material batch recorded, process parameters logged, dimensions measured against the drawing and a first-article report issued with the parts — so the part that passed can be reproduced deliberately.

Applications

What Medical Teams Print

Instrument housings

Iterated in days, in the polymer the production part will use.

Bench-test fixtures

The rig that holds the device while it is proven.

Patient-specific parts

Made to one anatomy, which is a batch size additive is built for.

Sterilisable geometry

Nylon and polycarbonate parts with no support crevices to trap anything.

Clinical batches

Ten to a thousand on MJF, with consistent properties across the run.

Documented inspection

Dimensional report and deviation map issued with the parts.
